Students, it’s going to be a fantastic year. There is a high level of expectation for challenging music and continued exceptional sound from our group.
Parents, please stay in contact with me throughout the year.
Grading Policy
Grades will be earned by totaling the points earned by the student in each of the following areas: performances, class participation, playing tests, sectionals, practice records, quarterly projects, and written tests.
Points from each area will be totaled and a grade assigned based on the following percentage scale:
A 100-94 C 76-73
A- 93-90 C- 72-70
B+ 89-87 D+ 69-67
B 86-83 D 66-63
B- 82-80 D- 62-60
C+ 79-77 F Below 59
Class Participation: students must play every day, prepared with instrument and music, contributing to the group’s sound, helping other members perform at a high level. CLASS TIME IS GROUP REHEARSAL. It is expected that each student fully contribute with mental and technical efforts.
Playing Tests: demonstrating individual practice and improvement
Written quizzes, projects, including rhythms, composer/historical information, composition, theory etc.
Performances: Each person is important to the success of the orchestra. Everyone depends on each student who rehearses with us to be present at concerts. Absences can only be excused with prior notification, and performance must replace missed points. Please understand that nothing can make up for a missed performance and for not having all of our students present on concert days. We need everyone to participate in performances.
Acknowledgement and Agreement of Class Disclosure includes Permission for Student to Travel off Campus and Out of Town for Festivals and Performances. Permission is also given for students to be recorded, both video and audio, for evaluation and assessment purposes.
