6th Grade Math

During the present School Closure I am doing my best to help your child access and complete necessary assignments. I have tried to keep the process for assignments and grading the same as always. But instead of me being able to teach and answer questions directly to my classes I am making videos of myself teaching every lesson. These will be included with the usual list of tutorial videos I make available for each lesson (it’s rather awkward for me, but hopefully it helps!). Any questions can be sent to me via email (todd.furse@washk12.org) and I will do my best to answer them in a timely manner (see “Rules…” Below).

-Starting today (Wednesday, March 25th) I will continue to assign and grade Khan Academy lessons. Your child can access them at home the same way as always (see “Logging In” under these notes). As usual, students will have 2 days to complete a given assignment to 70% or better after the morning that I assign it on PowerSchool. I will then enter a grade there for it. After that if a student completes and unfinished assignment or improves a score (or catches up with the last required Mastery Challenge % level) you or your child need to inform me via email so I know to update it. Said email must have the child’s full name, the name of the lesson, and the score. Please DO NOT send me such an email until I have already entered a score for an assignment.

-Your child can access everything necessary for this class on Schoology (https://schoology.washk12.org/ or go to the link on the right side of the HIS Website https://his.washk12.org/). Use your child’s school google account to log in (the one that ends in “@washk12.org”). There will be a folder there called “Closure Lessons & Links Furse 6 Math”. In that file there will be a page called “Closure Lessons & Links”. Each morning during the closure I will add each day’s lesson, the links to it and links to tutorial videos to that page. Don’t worry about posting completed assignments on Schoology. I will access scores through my Teacher Dashboard as I always do. Today’s lesson and links are already posted on Schoology.

-Remember! Students need to be doing Mastery Challenges. 70% due at the end of March.

-I will continue to send these emails about daily lessons.

-As always, your 6th Grader can access his/her lessons here, on the calendar on my Math website (see “Lessons Links on Calendar” below).

-If this closure continues beyond the scope of Khan Academy lessons we will implement other assignments to continue your child’s preparation for the future.

-Rules for emailing questions:

1- Watch videos first and do your honest best before emailing so I can keep up with the amount of questions that come in,

2-Put “Question” in the subject line so I will prioritize those,

3- Keep the questions about Math that I have assigned to you. No stories about your Cat’s mom’s husband’s third-uncle’s thyroid gland operation. I will not “chat”.

4- I will answer emails on a first-come first-serve basis starting in the mornings after I get assignments posted and other school-related chores done (hopefully by 8:30 or 9:00 a.m.) until about 2:00 p.m.

-Good luck with everything!

-Thank you very much!

6th and 7th Grade Art

Parents:

Any assignments we were working on before the break/closure will be finished when we return (don't worry about them for now). Please email me if you have quesitons. Here are the instructions:

1- Each assignment will be posted on Monday morning and students will have until the next Friday to complete it.

2- Instructions for each assignment will be posted on Schoology and sent home in an email.

3- Criteria will be flexible so that students can accomplish them with whatever materials are reasonably available.

4- Students are encouraged to put enough effort into it that would take up approximately 2 to 2.5 hours for the week. Multiple and different versions may be done if necessary.

5- Students will then ‘turn in’ the assignment by clearly photographing it with a phone and sending it to me attached to an email (todd.furse@washk12.org ...I will be checking my email for assignments until around 2:00 p.m. every school day, so be please patient after that until the next school-day morning). The email must have “Week 1 Art 6” or “Week 2 Art 7” or whatever is applicable in subject box (“Week #” is the week of the assignment and “6” or “7” is your child’s grade in school). To get a grade for the assignment the email MUST include the student’s first AND last name, the period your child has Art (6th Grader’s have 4th Period, 7th Graders have it 5th) and, again, the assignment’s Week #. I will post grades on PowerSchool by the next Wednesday (so if it takes a little longer than Friday, not a huge deal...I won't minus points).

6- If, for some reason, photographing an assignment doesn’t work, email me and we will set up a time to meet at the front doors of the school. But make sure artwork has all the required information on it.

7- If students are severely limited in Art materials please email me and we can make arrangements for some consumables.

Please see the "Art" Page of this website for assignments during the COVID-19 School Closure (Click on "Home" at the upper right and choose "Art").
