4th Grade Social Studies
4th Grade Social Studies Mrs. Mattice
The history, geography, government, and economy of New York State will be covered in 4th grade Social Studies. Students can expect homework two to three nights per week. Following each chapter or unit, students will have a test and project. Additional copies of notes for each chapter will be posted on the Social Studies Google Classroom. Students can also access a review game (Kahoot!) to review for tests on Google Classroom. The following is a list of units to be covered this school year:
1st Quarter
New York State Geography
Project: Map of New York State
New York’s Early People (Iroquois, Algonquin, etc.)
Project: Poster on the Iroquois or Algonquian
DBQ Essay: Iroquois
2nd Quarter
Exploration and Colonial Times
Project: Timeline on Exploration and Early Colonial Times
Revolutionary War
Project: Map on the Thirteen Colonies
DBQ Essay: Colonial Times
3rd Quarter
New York State Government
Project: Flow Chart on New York State Government
New York After the Revolution (Immigration, the Erie Canal, Industrial Revolution, Civil War, etc.)
Project: Article and Map on the Erie Canal
DBQ: Citizenship
4th Quarter
New York After the Revolution (Immigration, the Erie Canal, Industrial Revolution, Civil War, etc.)
New York State Museum Project: Slideshow (class) and Creative Project (home)
New York in the Modern World (If time allows!)
Social Studies Grading
Grading will be based on the following areas:
Participation/ Effort (10%)
Classwork/Homework (45%)
Tests/Quizzes/Projects (45 %)
