This course consists of a concentrated review of grammar to provide the students with necessary tools and skill development needed so he or she may use the English Language to communicate thoughts with precision, coherence, and effectiveness. The literature component of this course offers a sampling of various literary types. The students should derive an understanding of literary concepts, such as plot, theme, etc.
Students will need a composition book or notebook, folder and pencil; which they should bring to class daily. Students will also need index cards and an additional folder later in the year for the research paper.
Book Talks and Essay
Every nine weeks students will be required to read and discuss a novel of their choice. There will also be a written component due near the end of the nine weeks. Students should NOT wait till the end of the nine weeks to begin reading a book. If students have a difficult time finding something they like reading see me. I have many books and would be happy to find something they would enjoy. I have handouts in the class with all the specifics.
