Students Parents and Guardians,
I hope you all enjoyed your summer break.
I teach the following three courses—American History Section 4001, American Government Section 4003, and Critical Thinking and Mass Media Section 4017.
Section 4001 covers American History from the end of Reconstruction to the present day. This is a year-long course. I follow the American History Model Curriculum mandated by the Ohio Department of Education (ODE).
Section 4003, American Government, is a semester-long course that will focus on the knowledge that students need to become productive and participate as members of a greater democratic society. The content will focus on the basic principles of government: the Constitution, the legislative branch, the executive branch, the judicial branch, Civil Liberties, Civil Rights, comparative political systems, comparative economic systems, and state and local governments.
Section 4017, Critical Thinking and Mass Media is a semester-long course that will be technology-based and will focus on research and fact-checking. Following the research portion of the class, the students will be introduced to the skills needed to record short informative broadcasts for publishing on the class YouTube channel utilizing Adobe Premier. The class is limited to a maximum of ten students. All students are expected to be willing to be videotaped in any of the following roles: Anchor/Host, Weather Personality, Roaming Reporter, Sports Reporter, Investigative Reporter. Opportunities for individuals to work on video production will be available to students with demonstrable skills in Adobe media applications.
There is a change in school policy regarding students' cell phone usage. Students will not be permitted to have their cell phones in the classroom. Please communicate this with your child to avoid any confusion on day one.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me.
Thank You,

This photo was taken while traveling down a road in Afghanistan. Mine fields were a common feature of the landscape. Often you would see small piles of rocks in a field that were painted white. These piles identified where Afghans had located a mine. It was not uncommon for us to watch children playing around these piles of rocks.
Notice the Hindu Kusch Mountains in the background.
I have included photograph from my tour in this site. Feel free to take a look.
