Calendar -- To schedule an event in the Library Media Center, please check the online Calendar of Events link, found in the menu at the top of the Library web page, for availability. Please email both Button and Betsy to request your event and let us know what class period(s) you will need the facility. Unless you are having a guest speaker, events may only be scheduled one month out.
Destiny -- This is the library's online catalog. It contains a listing of books, videotapes, DVD's and audiotapes in our collection. You can access Destiny by going through ClassLink.
Instruction -- We provide instruction in information literacy skills at your request. When you schedule a class to come to the library, we will introduce the students to print and nonprint materials pertinent to your assignment. We ask that you let us know the nature of your research/assignment so that we can be prepared to collaborate with you and provide appropriate resources. We also provide one-to-one instruction to students while your class is in the library.
Orientation -- Primarily, English classes visit the library early in the school year to become acquainted with the library and its policies and procedures. If you teach English, particularly sixth grade, please schedule a time for your classes to visit during the first few weeks of school. This is generally the most efficient way to reach all students. Of course, teachers of all subjects and grade levels may schedule an orientation visit as well. Orientation sessions help students feel comfortable visiting and using the library.
Book Check-Out -- Faculty may check out books for indefinite periods. We occasionally send out reminders to check on the materials. Remember, however, that our materials are for the use of all students and staff, so please return them when you are finished using them. Materials purchased with library funds are meant to be housed in the library.
Reserving Materials -- You may put books on reserve for your students to use in the library and we will work with you in establishing guidelines for checking this material out to them after your research in the library is complete.
Professional Collection -- We maintain a collection of professional books in the library. Books are included in Destiny, so you may search for them there. Alabama Virtual Library's EBSCO database has an extensive collection of professional development journals and periodicals.
Laminating -- A laminating machine is available in the library but may only be operated by library staff. We will laminate school-related materials for you. Please put your name on the items so we will be able to return them to you in a timely manner. We will deliver your lamination to you or notify you via email when your lamination is ready if we are unable to deliver to you.
Materials Requests -- Each year we ask for requests and suggestions for materials and you may request materials at any time. Please try to provide us specific ordering information (catalog or website) to insure we order the correct item. When funds are available, we will obtain these materials. Please understand that we order for all subject areas, so prioritize your requests.
Class Period Procedure -- During class periods, we ask that you send an individual pass with each student filled out and signed by you. Because of our large population, do not send more than 2 students during these class periods. To maintain the research/study atmosphere of the library, we must sometimes restrict them number of students during these times. Please send individual passes--we will not accept a pass with multiple student names. Please use the LIME GREEN MEDIA CENTER PASSES. Let us know when you need additional passes. Students who do not use the library in a proper manner will be sent back to their classes.
Please use the lime green Media Center Pass when you send a student to the library.
Library Closings -- Occasionally the library will close because of testing, presentations, or classes using the library. We will post signs on the outside doors and send an email notifying staff members of the closing in such instances.
We suggest that you email both of us when you need to communicate with us to insure that at least one of us receives the message.
