Zoology is the study of animals. This class is a one-semester laboratory based class to investigate the role animals play in our environment and how the structure and function of all animals relates to their role.
** This is a dissection-based course, and students often learn the most through viewing and interacting with the various organs and tissues themselves. Animals we will dissect include: rat, squid, clam, crayfish, worm, sand dollars, sea stars, salamander, grasshopper, perch, and sharks.
** Any students objecting to dissection should choose a different science elective. There are no alternative assignments to dissection.
Disciplinary Core Ideas:
1. Animal Overview
2. Sponges, Cnidarians, Mollusks, & Worms
3. Arthropods
4. Amphibians & Fish
5. Reptiles, Birds, & Mammals
