Product Ideas

Once you are done exploring all the resources, it’s time to create a poster, brochure, or other project.

Student Project:

Peruse the links on this site with the purpose of finding evidence - data, maps, photos, and other examples - of processes that shape the Earth and patterns that relate to its features. Students must investigate using the links provided first. Then, conduct a “smart search” (using 2 or 3 key words) to find the information needed to describe or define landforms, erosions, weathering, and provide solutions to reduce the impact of natural Earth processes on humans.

Possible Topic/Project Ideas:

  • Brochure: What do you do during an earthquake?

  • Earthquake ABC’s (just like the book-use the glossary)

  • Create an illustration/poster (poster rubric)

  • Act out the steps necessary to be safe during an earthquake

  • Make a preparedness commercial (Here is a sample of one we made with the help of Homeland Security.)

  • Describe how to improve or invent technology that helps protect humans from natural events/processes

  • Create a presentation about one of the above ideas

  • Examine current emergency preparedness plan for your school and make suggestions for improvement – create a new one

  • Prepare and teach a lesson to younger students about what to do in the case of an emergency due to earthquake, flood, volcano, or tsunami

  • Find out how earthquakes are recorded locally and create a diagram to present and explain to classmates

  • Write a summary or compare and contrast different cultural flood stories
