Action-horror anime adaptations have been the most successful series of the last few years. It appears that the creators have finally found a genre that was ignored for far too long and only now they have realized its true potential. The result has been several popular anime adaptations that have rivaled the best Shonen anime of the last two decades. The most prominent ones being Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer which have taken the anime world by storm. The recent success of the action-horror genre is also one of the key reasons for Chainsaw Man’s anime adaptation.

The trends are likely to follow in the coming years. Interestingly, Chainsaw Man’s upcoming move to Shonen Jump+ has failed to make more fans aware of Hell’s Paradise, another action-horror manga that deserves an anime adaptation. The manga has been around for more than three years and has sold over 2.5 million copies so far. However, despite doing well, Hell’s Paradise is yet to get an anime adaptation which seems unlikely, at least now.

The characters in the series are death-row inmates and they are tasked to bring back an immortality elixir for the shogun from a mysterious island in order to receive a pardon. The people pulling strings have ensured that the inmates don’t rebel by sending a group of executioners from the Yamada Asaemon clan with them. But neither the executioner nor the inmates are prepared for what awaits them on the island. The dangerous environment welcomes them with a gory start to their journey. They struggle to make sense of the bewildering environment that they have been left in. As the story progresses, it slowly settles into a more conventional action, Shonen. The plot is engaging, and the readers are bound to get hooked from start to end. It is, therefore, strange that a manga like Hell’s Paradise is yet to receive an anime adaptation.

Why Hell’s Paradise Is Yet to Get an Anime Adaptation?

Although Hell’s Paradise has a lot of potentials to become a great anime, there are several reasons that it has not happened yet. Firstly, it does not have the popularity needed for an anime adaptation, while it was the most famous series back in 2018, but it was soon overtaken by Spy x Family manga the following year. The fact that it was being serialized on Jump+ was another limitation that has delayed an adaptation. So far in all these years, only two Jump+ manga, namely, Rifle is Beautiful and Astra Lost in Space has been adapted. Spy x Family, which is the most well-known Jump+ series, is yet to get an anime adaptation, so it's very unlikely that Hell’s Paradise will be adapted anytime soon.

Interestingly, the only two Jump+ manga's that have been adapted so far, Rifle is Beautiful and Astra Lost in Space were near completion or completed when they were adapted into anime. So, it might be the same for Hell’s Paradise, and the producers may be just waiting for manga’s end before they make their final call on its anime adaptation. Even Chainsaw Man’s adaptation was announced after its Part I was concluded. Since Hell’s Paradise’s conclusion is also near, the fans can expect good news soon. It can also be one of the reasons that no announcements have been made so far about Hell’s Paradise’s future.

However, there is one more big problem that creators and producers will have to discuss before Hell’s Paradise get an anime adaptation.

Does Hell’s Paradise Deserve an Anime?

Hell’s Paradise has one of the best incorporations of the philosophy of Taoism in recent popular media. The series has a great balance of weaknesses and strengths that pays homage to Taoist philosophies. Even the setting of the manga reflects the philosophy with its beautiful flowers and incredibly deadly surroundings. The characters in the series are unique and grounded in reality. Unlike most Shonen characters, they have unique backstories that have led to the development of their fighting style.

The unique characters and their fighting styles are complemented by the philosophical battle system that gives Hell’s Paradise exciting and unpredictable fights that most fans enjoy. If a competent production studio is given the responsibility of Hell’s Paradise anime adaptation, there is no doubt that it can become a breakout hit. The action-horror genre is in great demand these days, and the time is right for the series to consider an anime adaptation finally. With its deep philosophical roots, unpredictable fights, unique characters, and beautifully twisted visuals, the series have the potential to become the next big thing in the anime world. Hell’s Paradise, therefore, not only deserves an anime adaptation, but it would undoubtedly be the most popular anime of recent years once it is released.
