Introduction to Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS)

Introduction to Family and Consumer Sciences focuses on the changes and challenges faced by young teens today. Topics include Culinary Arts. Hospitality & Tourism, Food Science & Nutrition, Health Management & Wellness, Housing & Interior Design, Human Development & Family Relations, Personal & Family Finance, Textiles, Apparel & Retailing.

Foundations to Early Childhood Development:

Foundations to Early Childhood Development provides students with knowledge about the physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development of children from conception through pre-school age. In addition, this course helps students discover how parents should respond to the various stages of childhood. Course content includes topics such as: responsibilities of parenthood; fundamentals of children's emotional and social development; and the appropriate care of infants, toddlers, and young children.

Family Studies:

Family Studies emphasizes building and maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships among family members and other members of society. This course emphasizes topics such as social/dating practices, human sexuality and reproduction, marriage preparation, parenthood and the function of the family unit, and the various stages of life. It may also cover topics related to individual self-development, career development, personal awareness, and preparation for the responsibilities of a family member and wage earner.

Human Growth & Development:

Human Growth and Development provide students with knowledge about the physical, mental, emotional, and social growth and development of humans from conception to old age. Course content will provide an overview of life stages, with an emphasis on research and theoretical perspectives. The course will also explore careers in the human services field.

Early Childhood Applications:

Early Childhood Applications helps students identify and evaluate personal goals, priorities, aptitudes, and interests with the goal of helping them make informed decisions about their careers with emphasis in careers regarding children. This course exposes students to various sources of information on career and training options and may also assist them in developing job search and employability skills. The students must supply their own transportation. Students will be responsible for expenses related to TB testing and CPR certification.
