West Franklin Elementary @ Williamsburg

IMPORTANT INFORMATION 8/25/2026

The presence of natural gas was detected inside West Franklin Elementary at Williamsburg this morning.  No students were in the building and students arriving at school were brought to the Williamsburg Community Building.  Kansas Gas Service, the Williamsburg Fire Department, and Franklin County Emergency Management responded to the situation and Kansas Gas Service checked for any gas leaks.  None were detected and the smell was the result of a faulty pilot light in the kitchen.  We were cleared to enter the building at 9:30, and students were brought back into the building around 9:50.
