Outer Banks (OBX), North Carolina, has grown in popularity after the hit show on Netflix, “Outer Banks” released on April 15, 2020. According to IndieWite.com, the series took the Netflix community by storm and the first season had 35.1 million views when it first aired.
Even though the show persuaded many to visit OBX, the show was actually filmed in Charleston, SC, simply because it was cheaper to film there.
Melissa Schurr, a sophomore, has watched all three seasons of “Outer Banks.” She is passionate about the series and recommends it to anyone who thinks about watching it.

A: The Outer Banks is mostly set in present times but has a lot of mentions of the past and is based on a lot of stuff from the past.
Q: What is the purpose of the series?
A: The main characters go through many adventures including treasure hunts, fights, love, family problems, and friendship.
Q: The main characters are teenagers, do they attend school?
A: In the show, they went to school a little but dropped out to look for gold. Other than that, they are barely in school.
“Outer Banks” has been the #1 most-watched show on Netflix every time a new season comes out. The show has many loyal fans, including some who live in the actual Outer Banks, NC.

The residents who watch the show say that two main similarities between the show and the real world include hurricanes and shipwrecks. Being on the coast, Outer Banks gets hit by a hurricane once every couple of years. Though shipwrecks are common in Outer Banks, there is no gold/treasure like there is in the show. Some differences include the use of the terms, “Pogues and Kooks,” In the show, there is a large difference in social class in the Outer Banks that real residents say doesn’t exist.
The show has also changed the lives of the aspiring actors and actresses who made up the cast. After the show came out, the actors went from a few thousand followers to over a million followers. According to headlineplanet.com’s article titled “Madelyn Cline Reaches 5 Million Instagram Followers, Chase Stokes Hits 4 Million; Catching Up On ‘Outer Banks’ Cast’s Massive Social Growth,” Madelyn Cline, who plays Sarah Cameron, grew the most following out of the cast. She went from 6,000 before the show, to 14 million after the third season. Their newfound fame has also got them new jobs as actors.
The show took the Netflix world by storm and many found passion in it. Viewers continue to grow love for the characters and the actors. Whether or not the show is true to the real world Outer Banks or not, it still has many loyal viewers who plan on watching every future episode.
