Recently I have gained the responsibility of owning a lab puppy, I have named Winston. He is a very loving dog. He loves every thing and everyone. I plan on training him to be an emotional support animal.
Getting a lab puppy can be very beneficial. These dogs are very intelligent, athletic, and loving. Some people use labs as service dogs, emotional support animals, and to help with anxiety. Labs are also great hunting partners and retrievers. These kind, loving animals are great as a family pet and protector.
It is important to train your lab puppy when it is younger, so that it remembers all the things that you have taught it when it is older. Some of the things you should train your puppy when it is 8 weeks old include teaching it to sit; socializing with other humans and other animals, such as cats and other dogs; helping it participate in light activity; and helping it become house trained.
When your lab puppy is three to six months old, you should begin training it how to swim, and how to start taking the stairs up and down. You may need to send it to obedience classes or training so that it can learn better there, what it can and cannot chew on when it is teething; or how to walk being on a longer leash.
When the puppy is about a year old, you should begin training it to eat adult dog food (hard dog food); you need to teach it when it is okay to walk, jog, and run on your command. Your puppy should be able to repeat everything that you have taught it by the time it is a year old on command or naturally.
Lab puppies are weaned from their mothers when just eight weeks old; this means that a puppy can come home to your family as soon as it starts eating on its own and when its mother stops nursing it. Lab puppies tend to latch onto families when taken away from their mothers. These puppies tend to live 10-12 years from birth. This means that if you get one of these puppies, you better be ready for a long term relationship with this animal.
