Teens never would’ve thought that their biggest stalker while growing up would be their mom. Nowadays, almost every kid who is able to use a phone has one. With social media and other apps, parents are able to find out almost anything about their kids.
When parents found out about Life360, almost every mom jumped on board about the idea of tracking their teens. This app tracks their kid everywhere they go. With a membership, you can see location, phone usage, and driving speeds.
“I was forced to get Life360, but my brothers weren’t, so that was kind of stupid,” said Jaiden Taylor. Her mother, Marla, does not remember it going quite like that, she said. When Jaiden was middle school age, Marla said they both agreed to download Life 360, so Jaiden could also track her mom.
Junior Annaka Haynes also said her parents track her with Life 360. “It was a new thing everyone else's parents were getting, so mine wanted to get it too,” she said.
Though most moms want to use this app for “safety purposes,” most teens think of it as annoying. They don’t get the freedom and trust that they want from their parents.
While most teens aren’t usually a huge fan of their moms looking at their location, some don’t mind as much. “I’m fine with it, they hardly ever track me,” said Creighton Johnson.
Moms have good intentions with Life360, but they’re definitely getting a little too addicted to it. Yes, it would be good to know if your kid is safe and not in a ditch somewhere, but looking at how fast they’re going on the highway is a little much. Kids aren’t necessarily being sneaky, but they don’t want to be bugged about where they are everytime they’re out with friends.
“I have no privacy or freedom,” said Haynes.
Don’t be afraid to talk to your parents about your thoughts about being tracked on your phone. “If I had to convince my parents to let me delete the app I would tell them that I am responsible and that they can trust me. I don’t do anything bad and I’m almost 18 years old,” said Taylor.
Though some parents may be more understanding with Life360, their teens will never be fond over the fact that their parents can see their speed, location, and phone usage.
Bear with your parents through high school and let them do what they need to do to make sure you’re safe. Maybe after high school you’ll be able to get the courage to face your parents and delete the app!
