Q/A w/Daniel Silva!

Coming all the way from Brazil, a new student at DWHS has arrived. Let’s get to know him!

1) Where are you originally from?

I'm from Brazil

2) What brought you to Kansas?

As my father and American, I'm here to try to get my citizenship in addition to wanting to go to college

3) Is the climate in Kansas different from where you came from? Which do you prefer?

Quite different, in Brazil, the climate is quite hot all year round, it does not snow and it never reaches less than 10 degrees celsius. I'm really enjoying Kansas, but I prefer Brazil.

4)  Did you come here with your family? Who is included in your family? What are your ages?

Yes, I came with my father, my mother and my brother. 

5) What was your first language? How many languages do you speak

My first language was Portuguese. I speak Portuguese and I'm trying to improve in English, I can't say that I speak 100%

6) What kind of activities did you participate in in your hometown?

He played guitar, played soccer, and worked as a veterinary assistant.

7) Do you miss your hometown?

I miss it a lot, but I know that being here will be much better for me

8)What is the difference between the people here and the people in your hometown?

People are people everywhere, I don't see much difference, but the habits here are different from there.

9) What form of transport did you use to get here? How long did it take?

I came by plane, it took 15h or so to get here

10) Do you play any instruments? If so, what are they?

I play violao and electric guitar, but I know some things about piano, flute and bass.

11) What are your hobbies? What do you do outside of school?

I like to watch movies, and play video games.

12) What are the differences from your old school and Doniphan West? How many people were in your class?

Practically everything was different, in my school the teachers came to our classroom, and only had classes from 7 to 12, in my school, the hours were different during the days of the week. In my class there were 34 people.

13) Where are you now staying in Kansas?

I live in a house in Bendena.

14) What do you want to see here in Kansas?

Sincerely everything, I hope to be able to make unique experiences here, learning more each day. 

15) What is your favorite class here at Doniphan West vs. in your hometown?

my favorite class and biology, here in doniphan west, i haven’t yet had the opportunity to take this class, but so far of all the classes i have had i think the choir class was the coolest in my view.

16) What was your first impression of Doniphan West?

It was very good, the school is very different from Brazil and I really liked that the people here did not treat me badly because I was from abroad and included me so well bringing me friends.

17) Do you have a hard time understanding people here in Kansas?

So far I don't think so.

18) What kind of food do you usually eat? Is it different here?

in Brazil, we like to eat rice, beans and meat. Here I find it difficult to find a bean that comes close to Brazil, but the rest is practically the same.

19)What do you plan to do after school?

I plan to go to veterinary school

20) What would you like the people of Doniphan West to know about you?

I am a nice person, but I am still in the process of learning English, so I hope you are patient and understand my side.
