Spring is finally here! With spring comes warmer weather, greener grass, and the annual FFA plant sale.
The FFA plant sale is a long-standing tradition at DWHS. Elmer Schmitz, former ag teacher, and FFA advisor built the greenhouse and started this tradition. Even though Schmitz retired, the plant sale is still carried on by Mrs. Adame and the horticulture class.
The horticulture class, which consists of 10 sophomores, started planting seeds in January. These plants are tended and watered to every day at the beginning of class. They planted geraniums, ivy geraniums, vinca, peppers, chives, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, dracaena spikes, sweet potato vines, marigolds, impatiens, and coleus.
Kyra Johnson, who is one of the horticulture students said, “My favorite plant so far is probably the peach-colored geranium because it grows fast and it’s very pretty.” Johnson also said that she enjoys getting to have hands-on experience with the plants.
The plant sale will kick off on April 16th and continue through the 18th, the times are still to be decided. If for some reason you can’t make it then you can stop by before the FFA chapter banquet on April 20th.

Hi! My name is Ava Gladhart and it seems you've stumbled onto my page. I'm a freshman at DWHS this year and I'm involved in FFA, volleyball, basketball, cheer, dance, track, the fall play, the spring musical, and I'm a member of the KAY Board. I really like to stay busy and be involved as much as I can. Some of my favorite things to do include hanging out with my friends and family and going to the lake in the summer.
