Some boys are taking a step back in time with their hair. The iconic 80’s mullets are coming back, but why?
A classic mullet is a hairstyle where the hair is short at the front and sides, but long at the back. Many students at DWHS like freshman Anson Whetstine and senior Kalab Ridout have decided to cut a mullet. But some of the students didn’t settle with just an ordinary mullet, as some students like Nathan Helmstetter, junior, have permed mullets.
In a February 2021 survey of DWHS students, 30 students shared their opinions about mullets. Twenty-four students which is 80% responded that they do not like mullets. The other 20% that is made up of six students do like mullets.
Survey respondent sophomore Lilly Clark said, “I think they’re cool cause they’re bringing back an old style and I think it’s always cool to see old styles come back around.”
Freshman Anson Whetstine has been growing his mullet for 10 months. He’s had it trimmed once. Whetstine decided to grow out his mullet because it’s “American.”
If you ask me, it really depends on how the mullet is maintained. If a mullet is well kept, it tends to look better, but if the mullet is ratty and messy, it just doesn’t look good.
Freshman Anson Whetstine is one of the Mustangs at DWHS who has a mullet.
