What kind of activities did you do in college?
A: I played volleyball at HCC for one year then went to KSU and went into a sorority.
What made you want to teach?
A: One day when I was in high school, I remember telling my English teacher that I was not sure what I wanted to major in, but I definitely knew that I did not want to be a teacher. When I went to K-State, my first major was dietetics and then journalism. When I was almost finished with my journalism degree, I decided to switch to secondary education.
Craziest life event?
A: One of my best memories is when the DWHS boys basketball team placed second at state. Both of my sons were on the team, and the team went into the sub-state as an underdog and came out on top. The whole experience at the state tournament was a great time of celebrating our school. The school spirit was amazing, and making it to the championship game was an unforgettable experience.
A: As for a crazy life event: Try being at home on a snow day with three small children who are bored and are on each other’s nerves. The two oldest were ganging up on the youngest and I just wanted to lock myself in my bedroom.
High school life?
A: I played all sports (basketball, volleyball, track). I was a cheerleader for three years and decided not to try out for senior year. I loved working on the school newspaper and yearbook. For fun, we loved to go cruising town. Back and forth from one end of Highland to the other, we honked and waved at other kids and blared our 80s music.
Where did you grow up?
A: Highland
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: When I was little, I always said I wanted to be a veterinarian. But I never really liked the sight of blood.
What do you do in your spare time?
A: Read a good book, watch a movie, declutter my house, take some photos, take a ride in the side by side, go on a walk, work on photo projects.
Why do you teach?
A: Teaching has been a great career for me. I love being around and getting to know so many different people, both students and colleagues. And I have been able to be a stalker of my own children as they have gone through high school.
Have you ever changed your hair color?
A: I have always had basic brown, but I do have to make an effort to keep it this color.
