And just like that, homecoming week has come to an end for the 2019-20 school year. If you missed out on this hectic week, don’t worry because I am going to fill you in on the exciting week. On Friday, Sept. 27, the school was buzzing with excitement as the parade was underway down Main Street of Highland.
The parade was led by the elementary students and staff and followed by the high school floats. The freshmen started off the floats with the theme “Drown the Buffs,” while the sophomores followed up with “Brand the Buffs.” The juniors shook it up with a covered wagon, with a finish from the seniors with the theme “Lasso the Buffs.” The parade was a little more giddy-up this year with four horses included in the freshmen, sophomore, and junior floats. Saddled up on the horses were freshman Carlie Windmeyer, sophomore Hunter Smith, sophomore Trent Spiker, and junior Dana Windmeyer.
Once all the floats went through, each class presented a line dance for the crowd. The freshman started of the dance fest with “Good time” by Alan Jackson, the sophomores then followed up with “Copperhead Road” by Steve Earle. The juniors then busted out with “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins, and the senior class ended with the “Git Up” by Blanco Brown. When it came to votes, the sophomore class was placed first, with juniors in second, followed by freshmen in third, and last was the senior class.
After the line dances, the candidate games fired up to end the pep rally. The candidates were Makinley Smith, Lacey Banks, Bereanna Weiland, Joseph Groves, Stetson Diveley, and Creed Parsons. The first game was the candidates were asked a question about each other and they have to answer the question to their best ability. Next was the hot dog game, where the blindfolded queen candidates would feed a hot dog to the king candidates from behind their backs.
I decided to ask students questions about their homecoming experience. First was senior Makinley Smith, the homecoming queen of 2019-20.

Hi, my name is Carlie Windmeyer and welcome to my page! I made it to my freshman year at DWHS, and it has been exciting. I kicked off my year with some high school volleyball and it's been crazy fun. But when I am not on the court, I am hanging out with my family or playing with my animals. Some other things I am involved in is STUCO, Kay club, pep band, Green hand FFA officer, and the class president of my class. My favorite food is French dip sandwiches and my favorite drink is Dr. pepper. Some hobbies I have are showing my animals at fair and going on ranger rides.
