Going to a small school in a rural community, everyone seems to have a crush on someone. What even is a crush? According to Urban Dictionary, a crush is “a burning desire to be with someone who you find very attractive and extremely special.”
In a November survey of the DWHS student body, out of the 71 students who responded, 61% admitted that they have a crush on someone in or outside of school. (It is my opinion that not everyone was truthful in disclosing if they had a crush or not.)
Some people are more outgoing in expressing their emotions towards their crush, while others show very little emotions due to being shy and quiet. Some girls act out their crushes in physical, almost abusive behavior like punching and kicking the boy they like. It reminds me of grade school days when the boys and girls would pick on their crush during recess. When it comes to crushes girls seem to be more dramatic than boys. It appears that girls get hurt easier than boys or maybe boys just don’t show it.
Due to today’s technology, with apps such as Snapchat and Instagram, it is almost impossible to keep those crushes a secret. Even if your best friend says they won't say anything, it just takes one slip up to find out who likes who. Some people don’t care if your crush gets out even if they are private.
A part of me thinks that a crush is only something that you dream about that won’t really happen. The other part thinks that you can achieve a real relationship through a crush.
From pre-k to adulthood it is certain that you will have one crush. Some people will have many. When you find that special person, you might fall in love immediately or it might take a while. What started out to be a crush in high school might just be the love of your life.
Hi, my name is Kody Goff, DWHS freshman. I have no free time because I have football from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and when I get home I have to do my homework and do my chores. Even if I do have free time, I can't play video games like I want to because my parents won't let me.
