Dan Frasier was one of the founding members of CCM and graduated from USD in December of 2003. Immediately after graduation he joined the South Dakota Investment Office where he managed the Convertible Arbitrage Hedge Fund for 6 years followed by launching the Small/Mid cap equity portfolio. During his time at the investment office Dan headed up the design of the currently in use Equity Valuation Model, Modified the Convertible Bond Valuation Model, built the theory and model used for Risk Management and Asset Allocation decisions for the total pension portfolio, headed up the initial creation of the High Yield Bond valuation model and designed the portfolio allocation guidelines for the Small/Mid cap equity portfolios. In June of 2012 Dan left the Investment Office to join Waddell and Reed as a Financial Planner for individuals. Dan is a CFA Charter holder.
Steve Ciofalo joined Waddell and Reed in 1982 as a Financial Planner. He was subsequently promoted to Managing Principal where he oversees 28 Financial Advisors from Fargo to Sioux Falls with approximately $600 million dollars in assets. In his time at the Sioux Falls office it has become the second largest financial planning firm in the Sioux Falls area with 15 Adivsors. Frequently the Sioux Falls office has been one of the top performing regions in the country. Steve has been a Certified Financial Planner since 1991.

Rockefeller IV, presents a Dean's Lecture entitled, "The Health Care Reform Debate and Process: Observations of a Health Policy Fellow." Dr. Hensel will share his thoughts about points of difference in the current debate as well as his experiences in the legislative process. His remarks will additionally include the roles in this debate of policymaking and politics, the press, and academic research. Dr. Hensel works on legislation in long-term care, end-of-life care, and health information technology. He collaborated in interdisciplinary research with scholars in health communication, health informatics, medicine, and social work.

At Medtronic, Mr. Ellis is responsible for the following functions: treasury, tax controllership, internal audit, and investor relations. Shortly after being named CFO, Mr. Ellis was made responsible for Global Business Solutions (which includes quality, supply chain, facilities, etc.) at Medtronic. Ellis received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1978 from the University of South Dakota. Mr. Ellis is the current (2007-2008) Chairman of the American Heart Association Board, a member of the Toro Company Board, and is currently a member of the Minnesota Society of CPAs.

Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7:30pm in Slagle Hall: Mr. Walter Pavlo will speak about Ethics in Business Organizations. Mr Pavlo holds an engineering degree from West Virginia University and an MBA from the Stetson School of Business at Mercer University. He was a Senior Manager at MCI's Telecommunications Division in the early 1990's, and he was responsible for billing and collections in its reseller division. He was responsible for the billing and collection of nearly $1 billion in monthly revenue for MCI's carrier finance division. In 1996, Mr. Pavlo, one member of his staff, and a business associate outside of MCI began to perpetrate fraud involving a few of MCI's own customers which resulted in $6 million being diverted to accounts in the Cayman Islands. In January 2001, Mr. Pavlo pled guilt to wire fraud and money laundering and entered federal prison shortly thereafter. His story highlights the corrupt dealings involving the manipulation of financial records within a large corporation. He will discuss the culture at MCI that led to his decisions and how ethics can be instilled in corporate culture.

Laura Coome from the State Society of CPAs will do a technical program on the new financial literacy initiative that the AICPA/Ad Council is rolling out in October. Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 4:00pm – Mr. J.B. Pritzker, Managing Partner of the Pritzker Group and Chief Executive Officer of AmSafe Partners, a leading provider of aviation passenger and cargo restraints will be speaking at 4:00pm as part of the Dean’s Lecture Series. Mr. Prtizker is also a Partner of and founded New World Ventures in 1996, which has become one of Chicago’s prominent early-stage technology fund managers. Mr. Pritzker is ranked as the 181st wealthiest person in the United States and is one of the premier venture capitalists in the world. Mr. Pritzker graduated with an A.B. in political science from Duke University and earned his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law. Wednesday, March 15 at 3:30pm in Room 129 – Charlsie Charlson and Jeff Post from Wells Fargo Financial Bank in Sioux Falls will be discussing Business Compliance and Ethics, their jobs at Wells Fargo Financial, and the importance of compliance and ethics in day to day business. They will also touch on career opportunities within Wells Fargo company. Charlsie and Jeff are both USD B-school alums.
Friday, March 31, 2006 - FMA Field Trip to Omaha to meet the Warren Buffett!!! Charter buses will depart the Business School parking lot at 6am for a full day of activities in Omaha including a tour of Nebraska Furniture Mart and Borsheim's Jewelry and a 90-minute question and answer session with Mr. Buffett followed by lunch at Gorot's Steak House. The buses will return to Vermillion at approximately 8pm on March 31. The cost of the trip is $15 for FMA members and $25 for non-members. FMA students will receive priority for registration until January 31. CIC and CCM members will recieve priority registration from Feb. 1-15, and all business students may register beginning on Feb. 15. Please see Dr. Yip in room 123F or Dr. Lavin in room 219. You will need to pay the field trip fee at the time of registration. Please make checks payable to FMA.
Thursday, November 17, 2005 – Peter G. Peterson will discuss the tri-deficits. Mr. Peterson has served as the Chairman of the NY Federal Reserve, Chairman and CEO of Lehman Brothers, Founder of the Blackstone Group, and Secretary of Commerce under President Nixon. He has written several books including Running on Empty. This presentation will take place at 7:00 in the Warren M. Lee Theater in the Fine Arts Building.

Thursday, October 27 - Dr. Mark Hirschey, the Anderson W. Chandler Professor of Business at The University of Kansas will be speaking on “How can I get a good job in a good business?” This presentation will take place at 7:30pm in the Akeley Science Bldg. Room 125
Thursday, October 20 - John F. Grundhofer, Chairman Emeritus with U.S. Bancorp will be presenting Financial Services Evolution for the Dean’s Lecture Series. Upon his retirement in 2003 as Chairman of the Board, U.S. Bancorp had assets of over $175 billion. You may have remembered that it was Mr. Grundhofer that was kidnapped at gunpoint in Wisconsin, a bomb strapped to his wrist and held for $3 million in ransom. He was able to free himself and call for help. This presentation will take place in Farber Hall at 4:00pm.

Tuesday, September 27 - Mr. Thomas Unterseher, President & CEO of One World in Mobridge, SD will discuss the distribution center for Internet firms that he created in Mobridge. The presentation, which is part of the Dean’s Lecture series, will take place in Farber Hall at 4pm.
Monday, September 26 – Jim Means, Vice President and Trust Officer at First Dakota National Bank in Yankton will discuss what a trust department is, what his job entails, and the investment management process they use at First Dakota. This presentation will take place in the auditorium at 3pm.
Wednesday, August. 31 - Bruce Nolop, CFO of Pitney Bowes will speak about Pitney Bowes strategic positioning. The presentation will take place at 4pm in Farber Hall.
