Opportunities for Student Involvement
Opportunities for students abound within UHS' Extended Learning Program. They range from enrolling in ELP or Academic Decathlon Class (you get elective credit toward graduation) to spending a single Saturday testing your academic prowess against other kids in a high-intensity quiz bowl. We offer extensions in the form of competitions (some of which earn you a scholarship JUST for participating) and I can work with your regular teachers to help you create challenge in your other courses. Quiz Bowl
Quiz Bowl
On 8-period Mondays in ELP Class we practice for Quiz Bowl. If you'd like to practice, get a pass from Mrs. Forristall to leave Learning Centers and join us in class.
Off-site competitions occur throughout the year & you can join whenever your schedule allows - we are very flexible! Ask Mrs. Forristall if you'd like to be part of a team.

Quiz bowls happen throughout the school year; currently UHS does not have significant interest to form a team.
Academic Decathlon
Academic Decathlon
Academic Decathlon Class is available for fall enrollment - see Mrs. Forristall or your counselor for more details.
Academic Decathlon Club meets every Tuesday after school from 3:10-4:00pm in Mrs. Forristall's classroom until competition is over.
Students can plug in to AcDec in either of these ways, depending on their schedules.
Important Academic Decathlon Dates:
Regional Competition (Round 1 online): Dec. 4-8, 2023
Regional Competition (Round 2): Jan. 25-26, 2024
State Competition: March 1-2, 2024 (hosted by Cedar Rapids Kennedy HS)
