7. Course overview:

The course is composed of about 10 subjects given in 25 lectures (1hour lecture per week) and additional subjects may be added if seen necessary.

The 1st courses deal with diagnosis and treatment plan concerning the slection of patient in need for ortho treatment , so the student should be able to distigwish between the cases that can be treated with removable appliance and those not.

The 2nd course, the student have to start the practicle work on selective pateints with minor malocclusion .

8. Course objective:

At the conclusion of the courses, the student should have knowledge of

o Introduction to orthodontics.

o Management of some malocclusions.

o The squences of treatment with removable appliance or fixed appliances.

o Update on recent devices.

o The prognosis of treatment and the end result

o The retentive period

The role of students at this course are:

1. Active participation in discussion panels.

2. Preparing scientific topis in the field (presented as seminars)

3. Group discussion

4. Any extra necessary reports

5. Attending all sessions

6. Completion of all tests (Quizes, mid year exam and final exams)

7. Practical work on pateints with active and passive applainces

10. Forms of teaching

All the lectures are presented as power point on data show, practical lessons are given with the aid of white boards and practical or clinical demonstrations. Person to group education and self education methods are adopted.

Examinations:

Ø First semester: 5%

Ø Midterm examination (Theory): 30%

Ø Second semester: 5%

Ø Final examination (Theory): 60%

12. Student learning outcome:

This subject deals with the orthodontics procedures and measures. Nowadays, researchers and dental practitioners have focoused on malocclusion , asthetic and proper function …the student will learn how to mange simple malocclusion as early as possible to prevent future compication by simple removable appliance .

15. Examinations:

A- Popup Quizzes:

Students are prone to 2-3 popup quizzes in theoretical lectures during each trimester. Failure to participate attracts zero mark.

B- Middle-year and final-year exam:

Middle-year and final-year exam will include 4-5 main questions with subdivisions that need short answers; like definition, description, short notes, enumeration, comparison and explanation. But sometimes questions that may require long and detailed answers may be present.

The middle-year and final-year exam's duration will be 2 and 3 hours, respectively. The students should read the questions twice, think carefully, and plan the answer on a separate paper before answering to avoid scratches and written mistakes.
