Sarwar’s Philosophy in Teaching
My teaching philosophy statement is a self-reflective statement of my beliefs about teaching and learning. It should discuss how I put my beliefs into practice by including examples of what I do or anticipate doing in the classroom.
My goals/objectives as a teacher:
I want my students to get all information I give in my class. When students leave my class, I want them to have the foundational knowledge to ground their ideas in practice.
How do I achieve this outcome? To answer this question I have to explain my teaching theory. As my primary goal is to help students plan, write, understand and revise my lecture, as well as to encourage competency and general skill transference. Furthermore, I am trying to link the practice in my teaching so that the students get more knowledge benefit and be more encouraged about the subject. In my teaching many lectures are combined with practical in field. Before we are going to the our field I do declare by using power point presentation and videos then all students take part in practical lectures.
What methods will I consider to reach these goals/objectives?
The concept of audience informs all aspects of my classroom practice, from physically reorienting desks so that students are looking at each other, rather than me, to asking students to assume various audience positions while reading their peers’ texts. (i.e., my beliefs regarding learning theory and specific strategies I would use such as case study, group work, simulations, interactive lectures, learning/reading circles.
How will I assess student understanding?
My belief is the grading or other criterion-referenced? I use different types of assessment (traditional tests)? Alternative assessments such as presenting a project, term papers and weekly quizzes as well as monthly test and final test. I combine direct instruction of techniques with practice in which students are asked to provide suggestions about how these techniques could be applied to improve animal production systems.
How will I improve my teaching?
How will I use my student evaluations to improve my teaching? How might you learn new skills? How do you know when you have taught effectively?
Additional Considerations:
• Why is teaching important to me?
• How do I collaborate with others?
• What beliefs, theories, and/or methods mark my successful teaching?
• How do I maintain positive relationships with my students?
Last but not least, in my philosophy in teaching is that the students are encouraged to share actively in the discussion during the lectures. So, in my opinion for teaching we must not forget the following:
A. Encourages contact between students and faculty.
B. Develops cooperation among students.
C. Encourages active learning.
D. Gives prompt feedback.
E. Emphasizes time on task.
F. Communicates high expectations.
G. Respects diverse talents and ways of learning
