Outline Biography
Dr.Hoshang Farooq Jawad is professor of English language and Linguistics at the department of English language, College of Basic Education. He has been working in the department ever since 2012. Formerly, he worked in Koya University from 2004 up to 2012 where he worked as head of the English department at the College of Education for two years, head of English Department at the College of Languages for four years and head of School of Languages for two years. He is currently a professor of English language and linguistics with main interest on COGNITIVE LINGUISTICS, LEXICAL SEMANTICS, PRAGMATICS, TESOL, and COMPARATIVE LINGUISTICS. He is currently the head of the Scientific Committee in the department as well as the chairman of the Scientific Promotions Committee of the College of Basic Education.
Moreover, besides teaching and supervision in my own university, I also supervise two PhD students in Soran University, Kurdistan Region of Iraq. I have also co-supervised a PhD student in LMU university in Munich, Germany. In both cases, I have acted as a Cognitive Linguitics expert and researcher.
Research Interests:
My research interest includes the following fields:
1. Descriptive, Structural and Functional Syntax
2. Theoretical Linguistics with special focus on semantics and pragmatics
3. Cognitive linguistics and applied cognitive linguistics
4. Discourse analysis and language teaching
5. Teaching English as a foreign language
