Research Interests

Dara's research interest includes the following fields;

Places of Remembrance

I present here at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, a group of works (painting, drawing and printmaking), which in turn represents the fragment of a cycle that accompanies and determines my work for years. I consciously choose the term fragment, as these works were taken successive projects, their project titles were:

"Journey into the past," "The color of my homeland", "tracks", "The words of the past", "Childhood in me."

Content resulting from these projects a great cycle. Behind this is neither accidental, nor do I have consciously worked on a topic, but the places of my childhood and youth, and the terms thereof memories, the biographical room, which I have experienced for 22 years, experienced and survived have unconsciously influenced my work.

These places and memories have settled in my soul are in it even here, in exile, continued to grow. Its flowers are my pictures. These places are connected with memories of the traumatic events of the last century, with the many wars that I have experienced. As an archaeologist I fahnde for traces of this past, search it in my memory and in the stories of the people who accompanied my life. Find it also in the ruins and tombs of the past.

The horrors of the war, that war my childhood and youth, to materialize in the image and capture, I see as my universalist indictment of any war and its horrors. Although one can not be reduced to it, I paint in a sense the war of the soul and at the same time deliver a quasi documentary moment of destruction, from their funnels grows new life. They are suit, prosecution and overcome. But the images inherent in the ambivalence of any war: They are not only artistic documents of destruction and suffering, but also happy experiences, the light-heartedness, the children know and look for ruins and bomb craters.

The entire cycle of the exhibited images I understand as a tribute to the people killed of Halabja. Your I intend with my work.
