Abstract The man could create artistic works since his early life and they represented a necessary need linked with the style of his life in its various changes. The art became an assisting factor for him to get the satisfaction of the metaphysical powers and to help him to get a kind of assurance towards his spiritual fears. The practice of the art became a part of the human life because of many factors such as the religious beliefs, the social rituals and ceremonies and the art became for him as a tool to express his various hopes and what surrounds him and crosses his mind. The art helped in immortalizing the human achievements and activities by all means. Iraq was, and it will remain the country of art and human civilization from its south to its north and Kurdistan which is the location of our study, has well as its share of civilization and Shanidar cave is the best evidence on that and the roots of this civilization extended to our day this as the art took its eminent place inside the society which felt that there is no life without art. Therefore the attention to the art with all its genres is one of the characteristics of this society. Thus, the researcher tried to pay attention to it and study it by writing about this en particular the art of sculpture as there is not any academic study about it. This was what pushed the researcher to study this subject in this research which consists of four chapters. The first chapter dealt with problem of the research which treats the history of art since its beginning from the Stone Age till our day in brief. After that comes the importance of the research which lies in the showing the creative aspects in the made sculptures in Kurdistan squares through examining the relationship between the content and the raw material, and the form the fact which helps the sculptors and the amateurs of the art. The aim of this study is to discover the expressive characteristics in the sculptures made in Iraqi Kurdistan cities during 1991-2006. The second chapter, which is the theoretical framework, consisted of nine sections. The sixth section studied the relationship between the raw material and the form and it treats the effect of the raw material on the form and how choosing the available raw material for a certain form and the effect of the form on choosing its crude material, and it deals with the harmony between them to accomplish an artistic work. The seventh section is about the relationship between the form and the content in the artistic work and their effects on each other and their harmony The eighth section is about the relationship of the block to the surrounding space and this section studies the constructional relationship between the sculpture and the external space of exhibiting and the spatial conditioning depending on the subject of the artistic work and the nature of the place of exhibiting the sculpturing block in the space.
