My Philosophy in Teaching
I believe the main goal of teaching is to inspire learning. Learning happens in various environments and situations. While everyone has the ability to learn, a student's motivation is key to effectively grasping new ideas and skills. People have different learning styles—some thrive in lecture settings, others engage best through discussions, and some absorb knowledge through reading and reflection. The classroom environment can either support or hinder learning based on each student’s preferred learning style. By accommodating these diverse styles, we can create a space that promotes learning.
Students often take cues from their instructor. If the instructor lacks enthusiasm for the subject or for learning in general, students are less likely to put in the effort to engage with the material. It’s essential for instructors to establish their knowledge and expertise to encourage students’ willingness to learn.
As an instructor, my role is to create an environment that nurtures learning. I do this not only because I’m passionate about the subject matter but also because I love guiding students through the learning process. One of the most effective ways to inspire learning is by demonstrating my enthusiasm and encouraging students to participate. I foster a relaxed atmosphere, promote meaningful discussions about the material, and organize content in a way that’s easy to follow. I view the subject matter as interconnected, helping students see how what they’re learning contributes to a broader understanding of the world and shapes their own perspectives. I often emphasize research skills, showing students that learning how to find information is relevant in every area of life. By using examples from various fields, I encourage them to think across disciplines. Above all, I believe that respecting my students is crucial—not only to make them more receptive to the material but also to inspire them to respect one another and others around them.
One of the most important lessons I hope to pass on is that learning never truly ends. For me, this means continually improving my own teaching. I plan to deepen my knowledge of learning theories to better understand how students learn, and with time, I aim to become more confident in front of classes and audiences. I’m also committed to experimenting with new teaching methods and presentation techniques to create the best possible learning environment for my students.
