Software Engineering II

Hi everybody, welcome Software Engineering, Part II.

In this course you will learn many of the aspects you need to develop and deploy a software application - aside from programming. Specifically you will learn:

• How to capture user requirements in an actionable way and implement them in an agile manner, with short delivery cycles to ensure the periodic, frequent delivery of value to users
• How to structure your application into modules to be exposed via APIs - and why it is essential to do so
• How to mange source code in a multi-person, multi-version environment.
• How to test your code, to i) find bugs before your customers do, ii) to speed up development and iii) to make your code easier to maintain (because you will need to maintain it 3 seconds after you finish writing it)
• How to deploy your code by transitioning from a development to a testing to a production environment

You will put all the concepts to work, by using tools. In fact, the course is organized in such a way that we will often try things out first, then go through the concepts.

The prerequisites for the class are to be familiar with the basics of computer programming . There are no prerequisites on a specific language, we will learn in the course about web programming so that at least we can build application backends. Please register for the class at:

• One of the most useful books you will ever read, apparently unrelated to software engineering but instead very relevant: Never Eat Alone.
