Born in Rome, in December 17, 1945.

Graduated in Civil Engineering, first-class honour's degree, in 1970.

Full Professor of Structural Mechanics since 1986.

Head of Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome, 1998 to 2007.

Dean of the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome, 2007- 2016.

Emeritus Professor of Sapienza University of Rome, 2019 - . 

Coordinator of the Ph.D. Course in Structural Engineering, 1988-2002.

Director of the International Master in Analysis and Control of Vibrations in Civil and Industrial Applications, 2003- 2007.

Member of the Administration Council of Sapienza University of Rome, 2006-2009.

Member of the EUROMECH Nonlinear Oscillations Conference Committee, 2003-2008.

Coordinator of several national CNR (Italian Scientific Council) and MURST Programmes on Dynamic Response of Structures under ambient and human excitations (1988-) and principal investigator of PRIN (1997-2016 ).

Author and co-author of more than 250 papers (1972-) published in international and national journals and conferences on different items of applied mechanics and structural engineering.

Research is mainly located in structural dynamics area, focusing on three main themes: hysteretic systems, modelling of flexible structures undergoing large-amplitude motions, structural identification and damage detection.

He is a consultant for various public and private companies regarding the dynamic and static behaviour of buildings, bridges and monuments, structural health monitoring projects, analysis of complex structures.
