Imaging wood blocks

Rotatable and zoomable 3-D digital representations of three nineteenth-century wood engravings held by Special Collections and Rare Books, University of Minnesota Libraries (Timothy Johnson, curator), prepared in 2016–17 by Kevin Falcetano and Colin McFadden at Advanced Imaging Service for Objects and Spaces (AISOS), Liberal Arts Technologies and Innovation Services (LATIS):

  • Unidentified wood block associated with Thomas Bewick (1753–1828), perhaps engraved by an apprentice in his workshop.

  • Unidentified wood block associated with George Cruikshank (1792–1878).

  • Wood block engraved by W. T. Green (fl. 1837–72) after a drawing made by Richard Doyle (1824–1883) to illustrate the fourth Christmas Book written by Charles Dickens, The Battle of Life: A Love Story (London: Bradbury & Evans, 1846), page 55 (“Part the Second”). Acquired as “vol. 24” of copy 558 of The Nonesuch Dickens, ed. Arthur Waugh et al., 24 vols. (London: Nonesuch Press, 1937–38). TC Wilson Library Rare Books (825D55 IN).
