ME 4054W Design Projects

Welcome to the website of the capstone senior engineering design course in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus. In this course, teams of four to six undergraduate mechanical engineering students work for one semester on an engineering design project sponsored by a local company or researcher at the University. Project advisors are from the sponsoring companies or are University faculty or research staff.

The semester culminates in a Design Show where the project teams display their work in a public forum and are evaluated by a jury of engineering professionals. The objective of the course is for students to learn a structured engineering design process and to practice it by working on a real-world design project. A second objective is for students to use their engineering knowledge by applying it to an open-ended design challenge. The final objective is to return value to the project sponsor through the delivery of a completed design and prototype.
