Check the Exceed Lab Calendar to see when the lab managers are available, what events are coming up, or to see if a project team or student group has priority time in the lab. See an explanation of this below the calendar along with instructions on how to add events or reserve time for your group.
Adding Events:
Student groups can hold events in the Exceed Lab and reserve priority time for them by emailing exceed@umn.edu with the subject line "Student Group Event." Please include the student group and event name in your email, and what power tools you will be using (if any). Based on the size of the event and tool usage, we may ask you to hold the event in a different space for safety reasons.
Priority Time:
Priority time was invented under the premise that even when a group really needs to use the Exceed Labs at a specific time, they likely won't need an entire room or every machine.
Therefore, when a group has priority time they have not made a reservation - instead, they are only given the authority to request immediate use of a work spot or machine they need.
However, with priority time, you may not:
- Ask to use a machine someone is working on, but use it non-productively (Facebook)
- "Reserve" the entire room; Other people are allowed to fill the space your group does not use
This system only works if priority time is the exception, not something that is reserved regularly or defensively. Therefore, reserve as little priority time as you can and only with a specific and good reason. A readable project name ("Sam Smo's Stupendous Singing Serenader" vs "SSSSS" or "Tesla Works") and contact email are also required, or your priority time is invalidated.
