This lets you place text along a shape (circle, curve, squiggle—whatever).
Create your path
Use the Pen Tool (P) or Shape Tool (L) to draw a line, curve, or shape
(Ex: Ellipse Tool for a circle)
Select the Type on a Path Tool
Click and hold the Type Tool (T) → choose Type on a Path Tool
Clicking on a curve with the Type Tool also works
Click directly on the edge of the shape or path you made
Your text will follow the curve of the path.
Adjust text position
Use the Direct Selection Tool (A) to drag the little vertical lines (start and end brackets)
To flip text inside/outside the path:
Go to Type > Type on a Path > Type on a Path Options
Change Align to Path or check “Flip”
Envelope Distort (Warp Text)
Select your text
Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Warp
Choose from presets like Arc, Wave, Flag, etc.
You can still edit the text!
Envelope Distort with Shape
Draw a shape (like a blob or arch)
Select your text and the shape
The shape needs to be above the text. Object > Arrange > Bring to Front
Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Top Object
Always copy your original text before warping or outlining — you can’t edit it as live text after expanding
To convert warped or shaped text to outlines:
Type > Create Outlines (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + O)
Use layers to keep warped and original versions separate
