Tab for Alternate Selection Options
When working with tools like walls or dimensions, pressing Tab cycles through nearby or connected elements to refine your selection.
Shift for Orthogonal Lines
Hold Shift while drawing to constrain lines or elements to orthogonal (90°) directions.
Spacebar for Orientation Changes
Press Spacebar to rotate components like doors, windows, or furniture while placing them in the model.
Double-Click to Open Views
Double-clicking a section, elevation, or callout symbol opens the corresponding view in the workspace.
Right-Click for Quick Options
Right-click on objects or elements to access context menus, such as Hide in View, Edit Type, or Create Similar.
Customizing Shortcuts
Revit allows users to customize keyboard shortcuts under File > Options > User Interface > Keyboard Shortcuts. This helps streamline workflows for frequently used commands.
CTRL + A – Select All
Selects all elements in the active view.
ESC – Deselect All / Exit Command
Cancels the current selection or tool.
Tab – Cycle Through Elements
Cycles through nearby elements for precise selection.
CTRL + Click – Add/Remove from Selection
Adds or removes elements from the current selection.
Scroll Wheel – Zoom In/Out
Zooms in or out on the active view.
SHIFT + Middle Mouse Button – Pan
Press and hold to pan across the view.
ZR / ZF – Zoom Region / Fit
Zoom into a region (ZR) or fit the model to the view (ZF).
WA – Wall Tool
Creates straight or curved walls.
LI – Line Tool
Draws reference lines or detail lines in views.
DI – Dimension Tool
Places dimensions to measure and align elements.
CS – Create Similar
Starts a new instance of the selected object or family.
RO – Rotate Tool
Rotates selected elements.
AL – Align Tool
Aligns elements to a reference edge or plane.
MM – Mirror (Pick Axis)
Mirrors selected elements along a chosen axis.
MV – Move Tool
Moves selected elements within the model.
CO – Copy Tool
Duplicates selected elements.
TR – Trim/Extend
Trims or extends elements to meet at a boundary.
VG – Visibility/Graphics Overrides
Opens the Visibility/Graphics dialog to control object display in the view.
EH – Hide Element
Hides the selected element in the view.
HH – Temporary Hide Element
Temporarily hides the selected element until Reset Temporary Hide is applied.
TL / WT – Thin Lines / Window Tile
Switches to thin line display mode (TL) or tiles open windows (WT).
CTRL + D – Duplicate View
Creates a duplicate of the current view.
RR – Render in Cloud
Launches cloud rendering for the active view.
CM – Place Component
Places families or components into the model.
RP – Reference Plane
Creates a reference plane for alignment or construction.
LO – Load Family
Loads a new family into the project.
DE – Delete Element
Deletes the selected element from the model.
CTRL + SHIFT + C – Copy to Clipboard
Copies elements for pasting into another view or project.
CTRL + SHIFT + V – Paste Aligned
Pastes elements aligned to the current view or level.
TX – Text Tool
Adds text annotations to the view.
DT – Tag by Category
Tags elements automatically based on their category.
TG – Tag by Group
Place tags on grouped elements.
LE – Leader Line
Adds or adjusts leader lines for text annotations.
EL – Elevation Tool
Places elevation markers in the view.
VP – Viewport Title
Edits or places view titles on sheets.
CTRL + N – New Project
Creates a new Revit project.
CTRL + O – Open Project
Opens an existing project.
CTRL + S – Save
Saves the current project.
CTRL + P – Print
Prints the active view or sheet.
CTRL + Z – Undo
Reverses the last action.
CTRL + Y – Redo
Restores the last undone action.
UN – Project Units
Opens the Project Units dialog to change measurement settings.
VG – Visibility/Graphics
Manages how elements appear in the active view.
TL – Thin Lines
Switch the display of lineweights.
CTRL + L – Level Manager
Opens the Levels view for editing elevations.
MA – Match Properties
Applies the properties of a selected element to others.
VV / VR – View Visibility / Visibility Restore
Modifies visibility settings (VV) or restores hidden elements (VR).
