current lab members

Postdoctoral Fellows

We are currently recruiting highly motivated scientists to join our team. If interested, please contact Christiane Wobus with CV, three references and reason for interest in lab.

Graduate Students

Andres Rivera Ruiz finished his B.S. in Chemistry back home in Puerto Rico before coming to the University of Michigan to join the Microbiology & Immunology PhD program. He joined the Wobus Lab in March 2022 to study astrovirus biology and the interaction between astroviruses and commensal bacteria in the gut utilizing biopsy-derived intestinal organoids. His passions outside the lab include science communication, tennis, language learning, listening to podcasts and trying new restaurants around Ann Arbor.

Adam Hafner completed his B.S in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Michigan State University before coming to the Microbiology and Immunology PhD program at the University of Michigan. He joined the Wobus Lab in March 2022 to study the molecular mechanisms behind metabolic rewiring of host cells during norovirus infection. Outside of lab he enjoys riding his motorcycle, playing video games, cooking, watching new shows, and trying various restaurants in the Ann Arbor area.

Ryan Vega Noah completed their B.S. in Biology concentrating in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology at Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. They joined the Wobus lab in August 2023 to study astrovirus interactions with tight junction proteins during infection using a colorectal cell line. In their free time Ryan enjoys going out to restaurants, cooking, playing video games, writing short stories, and sewing.

LAB MANAGER

Wynter Kell Arden (née Kelly Carnahan) earned her B.A. in Chemical Engineering from Tufts University and her M.S.E. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Michigan, where she studied tissue engineering and drug delivery.  She joined the Wobus lab in 2018 as a research technician.  She is helping the lab to stay organized and functioning smootly.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCHERS

Hannah Bushell is an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan majoring in Pharmaceutical Sciences on the Pre-medical track. She is originally from Stamford, Connecticut. Hannah joined the Wobus Lab in fall 2021, and is excited to build on her understanding of immunology and virology through her research.

Hyejin Lee is an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan. As a freshman, she does not currently have a major but plans to major in Biology on the pre-med track. Originally from Ridgewood, New Jersey, she joined the Wobus Lab in Fall 2022. She is excited to learn about virology and techniques in the lab and hopes to broaden her understanding of immunology as well during her time.

Anthony Ng is an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan majoring in Microbiology. My hometown is Chicago, Illinois. He loves the natural sciences and enjoys learning more about microorganisms that live with us. Anthony joined the Wobus lab in Winter of 2023 and is excited to learn more about viruses and expand his laboratory techniques. If he is not studying or working, Anthony likes to be outside running, biking, or motorcycling. He is a foodie and loves trying his best at cooking new dishes for himself and others.

Aditya (Adi) Kannan is an undergraduate at the University of Michigan, undecided but thinking of majoring in Microbiology. He is from Tokyo, Japan, having lived there for 8 years but now lives in Atlanta, Georgia. He joined the Wobus Lab in Winter 2023 to work with Adam Hafner on norovirus-induced metabolic reprogramming of cells.
