UMS Ambassadors began in 1972 (as the UMS Advisory Committee) to enhance relationships between the university and the community through the arts. Its members contribute thousands of hours of volunteer service to UMS each year. Since its inception, over 1,000 people have participated.
Ambassadors actively support UMS’s nationally acclaimed arts education program, serve as advocates in the community by attending performances and encouraging others to attend, engage teachers and students in area K-12 schools in UMS School Day Performances and other educational programs, and support UMS and its staff in a variety of ways as community partners and volunteers.
Being an Ambassador provides wonderful opportunities to catch up with friends and make new ones, whether working together on a project or socializing. Members speak of their experience as a "gift,” a “privilege,” and “one of the best volunteer experiences.” Here are a few more recent comments:
“Being an Ambassador in support of UMS is an honor. I especially enjoy working as a team with other members to achieve specific goals.”
“I love ushering at school day performances!”
“UMS is a precious jewel in the crown of Ann Arbor. Meetings and Ambassador Nights parties are a great way to connect, form friendships and make plans to attend performances together.”
