I have carried out a variety of consulting projects for industry and government, privately and through a statistical consulting corporation, Datametrics Research Inc., which I formed with Don Rubin. Topics include survey sampling in auditing and other applications, survey analysis, statistical modeling, test equating, and methods for handling missing data adjustment in clinical trials (e.g. Little et al. 2016, .
My early collaborative research focused on the environmental statistics (e.g. Little 1982), demography, specifically my work for the World Fertility Survey (e.g. Hobcraft & Little 1984), and economics, in particular missing-data adjustments for economic surveys such as the Income Supplement of the Current Population Survey (Little 1985; David, Little, Samuhel & Triest 1986).
While at UCLA I collaborated with Janet Sinsheimer and Jim Lake on Bayesian analyses of the structure of evolutionary trees using DNA sequences, based on the method of evolutionary parsimony and extensions (Sinsheimer, Lake & Little 1996, 1997).
At Michigan, I have collaborated in psychiatric epidemiology studies with Ronald Kessler at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research (Little et al. 1997). I have also collaborated with Richard Price at ISR on intervention studies concerned with job training, Maryfran Sowers on the Study of Women’s Health Across the Nation, Sioban Harlow on ReStage, a study of markers of menopausal transition, and Noreen Clark at the Center for Managing Chronic Disease.
I have also directed biostatistics cores for the University of Michigan Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, the Michigan Center for Health Intervention in the School of Nursing, the Michigan Center for Health Communications Research, and most recently on a grant on Lifestage Exposures and Adult Disease. Some references associated with these collaborations are given below. I am a member of the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center, and have served as Interim Director of the Biostatistics Core for that Center
I have an interest in Federal Statistical Issues. I have served as a member of the Committee on National Statistics, the Federal Advisory Committee of the National Children's Study, and a number of other National Research Council committees. I recently chaired a National Academy Committee on the treatment of missing data in clinical trials. I spent a year as an ASA/Census/NSF Fellow at the Census Bureau, and am currently serving a three year appointment as Associate Director for Research and Methodology and Chief Scientist at the U.S. Census Bureau.
