Dr. Maybaum's lab has long been interested in the mechanisms by which the initial biochemical lesions caused by anticancer drugs can eventually lead to cell death, cell cycle arrest and other fates. Our current work is focused on understanding how inhibitors of the checkpoint kinase, Chk1, are able to selectively sensitize tumor cells to chemotherapy or radiation, and on how to rationally translate the use of such inhibitors into clinical practice.
Also, Dr. Maybaum has been involved in computing and information technology for many years. He has served as Director of Academic IT Resources for the University of Michigan Medical School and is the principal architect of UM.SiteMaker (an institutional system for empowering non-technical users to create unique websites and web databases), which was recognized as the outstanding web innovation of 2006 by Campus Technology magazine.
