Learning analytics projects require significant investment, and, like any investment, should not be undertaken without thoughtful and deliberate consideration of factors that may contribute to success. The Learning Analytics Readiness Instrument (LARI) assesses an institution’s capacity to implement comprehensive learning analytics. LARI gauges five domains of implementation: Culture, Data Management Expertise, Data Analysis Expertise, Communication and Policy Application, and Training.
The Culture domain measures respondents' perceptions regarding the extent to the different types of data collected at the institution, and views and perceptions within the institution regarding data and data use.
The Data Management Expertise domain measures respondents' perceptions regarding the institution's investment in data collection and management, as well as in professional staff who possess skills and experience related to data management.
The Data Analysis Expertise domain measures respondents' perceptions regarding professional staff at the institution who possess skills and experience in areas critical for successfully implementing learning analytics-related analyses.
The Communication and Policy Application domain measures respondents' perceptions regarding the extent to which the institution is able to effectively communicate to stakeholders about learning analytics and work within current policies.
The Training domain measures respondents' perceptions regarding the extent to which the institution had the resources to appropriately educate end-users (of all levels) on learning analytics-powered reports and applications.
