My research spans various aspects of structural acoustics (the interaction of an elastic body with a surrounding fluid), mechanics, biomechanics and linear/nonlinear vibrations. Under the link Research Interests: you will find an annotated bibliography and description of various research topics. My current research is involved with:
Cochlear mechanics
Experiments and modeling of the mechanics of soft tissue and tissue growth.
Micromachined cochlear-like transducers View National Science Foundation story on this project. Further, there were a few other webstories written regarding the PNAS paper - please see the PhysicsWeb article and group picture and the MSNBC article as examples. Also, see Prof. Rob White’s Tufts page on the project
High performance piezoelectric MEMS transducers. Piezo-MEMS microphone work with Dr. Bobby Littrell has spawned a start-up company (Vesper Technologies) now with over 30 employees.
Completely implantable cochlear prosthesis
Computational and analytic methods for solving interior viscous fluid-structure interaction problems.
Some completed research is summarized in Research Interests, where you'll need to scroll down to find summaries of work in:
Wave-vector filtering algorithms
Modeling intersections and joints
Finite element method development
Acoustic silencing technology for hydraulics and air-conveying ducts
Contact and rattle generated noise and vibration
Gear noise
