This site gives you access to our database (click on Data tab). You can look up words used in causes of death and see what International Classifications of Causes of Death (ICD) code we assigned to deaths with those word(s). If you have Stata, you can see the probabilities of assignment to different codes. Download the Stata data and do files, enter the words you are interested in in the section called "Enter Search Terms" and run the do file. The do file is set up to look for "natural" and "causes". Overwrite these two terms with your own (up to 5). The output lists the ICD codes. There is also a text file listing the associated causes.
If you don't have Stata, you can download the text file of our data and use the search function of your text editor or spreadsheet software to find terms, but you will have to calculate your own probabilities.
We will be updating the site with a user-friendly look-up interface soon.
