Support for the development of the LessonSketch platform, online software tools, and modules and assessments has been provided by the National Science Foundation. Our team is comprised of project director, Dr. Patricio Herbst, is a professor of mathematics education; Dr. Vu-Minh Chieu, an assistant research scientist, is a learning technologist and computer scientist who is the technical lead in the development of the LessonSketch platform; Dr. Amanda Milewski, a research associate, is a professional development expert who leads the development of the SMP Modules. Other members of our team complement our expertise with their knowledge and experience in practice as well as research.
LessonSketch is designed and developed at the University of Michigan School of Education by Patricio Herbst and Vu-Minh Chieu. The content in LessonSketch being used in the professional development modules has been generated by the GRIP Lab at the University of Michigan and by Daniel Chazan and our colleagues at the Center for Mathematics Education at the University of Maryland.
The GRIP Lab (Geometry, Reasoning, and Instructional Practices), University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is a mathematics education research group dedicated to the study and improvement of the teaching of school mathematics., with particular emphasis on the teaching of Algebra and Geometry. The GRIP Lab is a team directed by Pat Herbst and includes mathematics educators, researchers, computer scientists, and graphic artists.
