Our ECE alumnus, Michael A. Rucci, was one of the co-authors of a paper that received the 2018 Rudolf Kingslake Medal and Prize from SPIE Optical Engineering.  In an interesting twist of fate his former advisor, Dr. Russell Hardie, received the same award exactly 20 years ago.  The 2018 honor was awarded to Bobby R. Hunt, Amber L. Iler, Christopher A. Bailey, and Michael A. Rucci for their paper entitled "Synthesis of atmospheric turbulence point spread functions by sparse and redundant representations," from the July 2018 issue of Optical Engineering.

Michael is currently a research engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB OH. His research includes day/night passive imaging, turbulence modeling and simulation, and image processing. He received his M.S. and B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton in 2014 and 2012, respectively.  His Master's thesis advisor was Dr. Russell Hardie.

ECE Alumnus Michael Rucci with his M.S. thesis advisor Dr. Russell Hardie.  Both are recipients of the Rudolf Kingslake Medal and Prize (exactly 20 years apart).
