What we do

Our Promise

The Chem-E-Car Project is a non-profit organization whose main objective is to design and develop a miniature-sized vehicle that runs exclusively on chemical reactions. Our organization is entirely student led with a faculty advisor. We strive to develop technical, professional, laboratory, and interpersonal skills of any student who decides to join. If you have no prior experience in any of the fields, don't worry! We have committed to helping YOU grow in any way.

Although membership is not a requirement, we do ask for a contribution (valid for academic year) which factors into payments for materials and the yearly T-shirt. For more information, please contact us.

The Chem-E-Car Competition

The Chem-E-Car competition is held annual at a local University depending on the school's region. It is an event that is part of the annual AIChE conference. At the conference you can network with other students studying Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or other disciplines. In addition, there is usually a job fair concluding the conference, where you can meet with recruiters in a smaller setting.

The Competition is fairly simple. Just make the car run! Each team gets two tries to get their car to a certain distance with a specific load (water). The numbers are given an hour before you must prep the stopping and propulsion mechanism of your car. The top 3 schools of the regional competition get to advance to the national competition. Below is a video of the experience of the competition.

So what are you waiting for?! LET'S GET TO WORK!
