ALAN L. STURDIVANT

Director of Music, Bands

In his 11th year of teaching, Mr. Al Sturdivant is a native of Charlotte NC, where he graduated from Independence High School in 2005. He then received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with a trumpet Concentration and minor in Piano from Winston-Salem State University in 2011. He is currently seeking his Master's Degree in Music Education from Liberty University. He is a member of professional organizations such as: the National Association for Music Educators (NAFME), the South Central District Bandmasters Association (SCDBA), the Union County Bandmasters Association (UCBA) the Kappa Lambda Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity Inc., as well as the Mu Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. Since becoming Director of Bands at Monroe High school in 2017, the band program has grown tremendously increasing from 20 members to 80. They have also grown in notoriety. They have received numerous 1st place superior ratings in both Marching and Concert Band competitions and contests, and were also selected to perform at the AMG Heritage Music Awards in 2019. In 2022, they were selected to perform Live on National television during the show "Fox and Friends" prior to the Coca Cola 600. Designing the brand new uniforms in 2019, Mr. Sturdivant continues to drive the New Look "Red Storm" into the future showcasing their musicianship, versatility, and showmanship to the masses.


Andrew Sokolowski

Assistant Director of Bands

Monroe High School/Monroe Middle School

Originally from Indian Trail, North Carolina, Andrew Sokolowski graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with a concentration in Instrumental Education. Mr. Sokolowski is a service member in the United States Army Reserve as an Army Bands Musician. He currently serves with the 208th Army Band in Concord, NC and has served since 2015. In 2022, Mr. Sokolowski assumed the Director of Bands position at the Health Science Academy at Monroe Middle School in Union County, North Carolina. Under his direction, the Monroe Band program continues to give students the highest quality education in the performing arts.
