Members of our team recently attended the NSF USPRD & CFIRE Annual PI Meeting and Showcase in Washington, D.C. The event brought together academic, government, and industry leaders working at the forefront of protein engineering, enzymatic synthesis, and cell-free biomanufacturing. We learned about emerging enzymatic technologies for producing compounds related to medicine and nutrition.

Similarly, our team is developing enzymatic cascades to manufacture pharmaceutical building blocks, with the goal of strengthening the resilience of the U.S. medicine supply chain and making medicines more accessible and affordable.

Beyond the workshop, the trip gave our team an opportunity to explore Washington, D.C., and visit some of the city’s iconic monuments. Seeing these historic landmarks in person made the experience especially memorable and provided a wonderful opportunity for our team to spend time together outside the lab.
