The Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) defines education technology as “ the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources.” The knowledge tradition of this practice is the focus of the Master in Education Technology program at Boise State. The tradition is communicated in two forms, as an investigation of the theoretical foundations of education technology and as a hands-on pedagogy in developing applications that foster online learning environments.
The evidence of my initiation in the knowledge tradition is demonstrated in two papers. In the Artifact Rationale paper, I demonstrate my proficiency as a technician. The paper documents the relationship between selected learning artifacts I completed during my courses and the AECT Standards. In the Reflection | Research paper, I offer evidence of my understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of the craft as well as my ability to apply the theory in practice. Together, I offer a complete portrait of a trained graduate ready to engage in the profession.
