Welding (C0115):

This course is designed to train students in the latest welding technologies and prepare them to meet the challenges of a welding career. These training programs include welding safety, Arc welding, Oxy-fuel gas welding & cutting, GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding), Plasma Arc Cutting, math for welders, blueprint reading application, welding symbols, and actual metal fabrication. Careers in the welding profession are a high-demand, low-supply occupational area, meaning a student’s chances of finding employment are very good. Students should have basic math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication,

division, including full use of fractions, and be able to read a standard rule. Students should enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather, willing to work with others, and have a strong desire to learn the course content. This course may be taken as an advanced career elective.

Prerequisite: 2 units of Math or concurrent with 2nd year of mathGrade Level: 11-12 Credit: 3 units

Also to be covered over and above the typical basic operation of the mill, drill, grinders, shears, brakes, benders and jigs. The machine tool training will cover 25% of course content. Examples of types of fabrication:

  • Trailers
  • Ag (farm) fabrication
  • Manufacturing and construction types of industry
