My Dad wrote this in 1972, after serving his first four years as Association Minister, so I left the quote in the present tense. From his reflections on 22 years of ministry.
“From the north side of Chicago I was called to my present position as Association Minister. It has been an invaluable experience. In many ways I believe I have reflected more faithfully and more creatively on the Gospel, the Church and the ordained Ministry than I have at any time in the past. No doubt, I have had to so reflect, due to the unique position of an Association Minister in a great metropolitan area. My life is involved daily with 177 institutions, congregations which struggle mainly to survive. Yet I know that for an historical faith to be real, it must take some institutional form.”
